JKUAT Graduates among Most Preferred by Employers
Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology is one of the most preferred learning institution among employers, parents and students. A recent study commissioned by Madison Insurance revealed that 63.9% of employers preferred public university graduates from JKUAT after University of Nairobi.
This accolade follows a recent triumph where JKUAT Mombasa Campus was voted as the Most Preferred Training Institution in the coast region trouncing University of Nairobi, Moi University, Technical University of Mombasa, and Mt. Kenya University. This was during the 2016 Business Award ceremony organised by the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) in collaboration with the Mombasa County Government.
JKUAT desirability can be attributed to technical expertise, knowledge of industry by both staff and students, industry involvement and incubation and mentorship programmes. For instance, the University hosts the African Union bespoke Pan African University – Institute for Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation (PAUSTI), boasts of a multi-billion Sino-Africa Research Center (SAJOREC) for biodiversity research across the continent, and recently won a bid to host the regional Maritime Technology Cooperation Centre (MTCC) for the Africa region to name but a few
In relation to incubation, JKUAT, in a bid to spur innovation and promote the commercialisation of R&D products to the market, became the first institution in the Eastern Africa region to host an industrial park dubbed JKUAT Industrial and Technological Park that acts as an incubator for knowledge based high growth enterprises.
Over the years, the University’s determination to engage and benchmark has made it an educational powerhouse in the region. In keeping with the philosophy of the institution, JKUAT always strive to adopt and utilise ethical standards and best practices in training, research and innovation in order to produce dynamic and marketable graduates not only in the country but also in the region.
